Design Journey: Chickee's Dress

It's NOT finished yet! But I know many of you are anxious to see progress, so I'm making myself vulnerable for you and showing you this First Communion dress. Ok, most importantly, Chickee says she likes it. I'm not thrilled that the dress is hanging lower at the waist than I had planned because the skirt weighs much more than I had anticipated. I knew this would happen, but I didn't think it would pull down so much. So the waist line is lower than I wanted it.
I think the back looks nice. The top front is too plain, so I'm thinking of adding some surface embroidery along the sash. I might also add a little cap sleeve to help it be less boring.
The shrug is not done, but is coming along and I think it helps balance out the skirt.

Don't forget to listen to me on YarnThing tonight if you can. See yesterday's post for the links.

I love Chickee's dress. It looks great. Is the sash crocheted or is it ribbon? A wide sash would cover the low waist, but it looks great as it is.
I also like your shrug. Love the color.

It's very sweet looking! What about adding some flowers along the neck line to pop the top a little more?

some flowers and ribbons/bows along waist could create an interesting diversion from the lower waist. I also think that adding something along the neck line such as ribbon or crochet flowers with some sparkly clear beads perhaps would add a pretty touch. Are you going to crochet a tiara, hair band or flower with ribbon comb? I am only a beginner in crochet but love to picture the beautiful patterns in my mind and love to look at other peoples work.
