Left handed Crab stitch AKA Reverse Sc

As requested, here are some photos of the Crab stitch, also known as the reverse sc for left handed crocheters. Above we start with 3 rows of sc, ch 1 at the end of the row, but do not turn. Now begin working back the way you came.

The first one looks funky. It's not until you get a few that it will start to look right.

The hook above shows you where to put the next stitch. Insert the hook, yo, pull up a lp, yo, and pull through two (both) lps on hook, crab stitch made.

Inserting the hook...

yarn over, pull up a loop and about to yo again,

and pull through 2 lps on hook.

And here is several!

I'm a 66-year-old "southpaw" and have been crocheting since I was 8. I learned by sitting opposite my right-handed mother and mirroring her stitches. I have never used left-handed patterns, and I have had a lot of disappointments in finished projects (although most of them come out just fine). I can often look at an item and copy it without a pattern. But I could never have figured out this "crab stitch" without your generous sharing of the pictorial step-by-step directions. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this. I have looked this up on several different sites and could not get it to work. Being left handed makes patterns backwards for me but I always find ways to work it out. I am so glad you shared this.

Thank you SO much I am left handed and need pictures instead of videos. Your pictures and instructions are perfect!

A big thank you from another lefty crocheter! (It was years before I even realised that right handed people crocheted in the OTHER direction)
