Re-purposing Challenge

I have 3 flip top boxes that store the old 3.5" floppy disks.  It seems like I could find a great new purpose for these boxes that have to do with crochet, or my crochet office or something.  Can you think of a way to re-purpose these boxes and/or disks?

There is a hook there for scale.

Using a thick fabric (with a nice solid color to match your yarn), such as outdoor fabrics, outline the shapes of the disks. Cut two squares, and glue each piece to one side of the disk. Use a utility brush dipped in glue along the edges to prevent the fabric from fraying. Allow appropriate time for the glue to set and dry.
Get creative, create or find a motif square to match the size of the disk (wet blocking if necessary) using a blend(s) of yarn to compliment the fabric background.
Glue edges to one side of the disk.
Create coasters by applying some felt circles in each corner or create a creative hanging wall piece.
The boxes can be either outlined in fabric or painted with small circular motifs or Appliques.

I have been known to crochet over old discs. I do the square ones like you have pictured and the CD type dics..make great coasters..as for the case..can't think of anything off the top of my head.

I would use the discs as a border in the room - just a few nails! And then for the boxes I would use them either for spools for sewing or for putting scraps of yarn in (when you start quilting you'll understand) but if you want I can take them off your hands and use them to store ribbon in! :-)

Are the boxes a good size for holding hooks, stitch markers and such?

I use boxes like this for when I use crochet thread or ribbon. I can't stand when the ball is rolling all around and getting twisted up.

Poke a couple of holes in the sides big enough for a dowel, pencil, or tunisian hook ;), stick it through the center of the ball of thread, and you're ready to go. If I recall, 3.5" disk cases weren't too wide, you might not be able to fit a ball of sz 3 or 10 thread, but definitely ribbon for crocheting or wrapping packages!

Good Luck!

I would use the disks to store small pieces for a lace project, for practice pieces, etc.
