Vintage Crochet (1970's) and Giveaway
More goodies from Grandpa Dave and Grandma Glenda who unearthed many of my Mom's old books and projects! How cool is that?
And this, is one of Mom's UFO's. I wonder if I can do something with it?

I have never saw crochet patterns in a package like that. How neat that you have one of your Mom's UFOs. Do you know what she was making? I think it would be wonderful if you finished her UFO.
Hi CindyCrochets, you're in the drawing! I don't know what Mom was making, I suspect she was just going to make a baby blanket in dc stripes using up stash. She did have another UFO that was a knitting one, which included the pattern, but I really couldn't see myself finishing it or being much interested in the finished product.
Hi Ellen, Excited about your contest. I do not comment very often but I read you daily.
I found one of my mothers UFO's as well but it was the first 5 chapters of a book. Fiction, kinda Si-Fi. I hope to some day finish it in her honor, I just hope I can do it justice.
Have a great day!!!
Scarlet, that's really interesting. Your Mom must have been a visionary!
I didn't comment on the post like I wanted. How cool that they used to have crochet patterns packaged like a sewing pattern. I like CindyCrochet have never seen that. I do remember all the patten packages, (dresses and such as she made all my clothes when I was younger) mom had that looked just like the fist one in this post.
Thanks for sharing with us Ellen!!
That looks like it could be an interesting UFO. Makes me wonder if there's anything like that already lerking in my mom or grandma's closet... Those patterns look intersting too!
I love vintage patterns and have a nice collection myself, LOL!! But for some reason I really don't care for granny squares, LOL!!
How cool...those patterns look like sewing patterns! I think you could continue the stash busting dc stripe baby blanket.
Wow! That man on the third cover is HOT! lol - those some crazy booklets - perhaps you should start a collection of really old crochet magazines and then when you die bequeath (sp?) them to the Library :-P
oh my goodness! Those first couple of patterns are so cool! They look just like my vintage simplicity patterns! My grandma gave me some of her vintage patterns, and boy, do I treasure them! I should do a blog post about them sometime...
The UFO looks very interesting! You could turn it into a poncho, or something...that was my first thought anyway!

Hey Ellen, I have some of those old magazines too!!

Hi Ellen,
I also have some of those old patterns. Although this is giving away my age, they are originals which I purchased myself and have kept all these years!
Wow - those patterns were a trip down memory lane for me....
I think it's neat that you found your Mom's UFO and can do something with it - what a cool memory it will be when done!
I really enjoy your blog!
How cool! I remember the tops with the long fringe -- never made any. You sit on the fringe and it gets pulled. Not many men I knew would wear a jacket like that either. I read you blog but I've never commented before. P
Tracy G left this message, but it had her email in it, and I didn't know if she wanted it published so here's what she said,
"I like the men's Bernat sweater. Ah the good old days.... "
My great-grandmother (who taught me to crochet) had a subscription to the WorkBasket. I sometimes search them on ebay - they are a great source for old patterns both knit and crochet. Fun to look at the older styles and try to update them with newer yarns and techniques. I especially like the baby and little girl stuff :)

Oh My Gosh I remember my Grandma wearing a skirt similar to the long black, red, and yellowy one and having a matching scarf in her hair (she was a very cool Grandma)thanks for bringing back the memories of the 70's. My daughters also think that the patterns are "cool" for today too...is it just me or does everything seem to come back into "coolness"
I was recently crocheting on a visit to my in-laws and my MIL pulled out a bag with crocheting that she hadn't touched in 30 years, with hook still mid-stitch and the WIP was a vest in just that same 70's retro orange (although back then it wasn't retro).
My grandmother, who passed away 3 years ago at 102 crocheting until she was 101. I have some of her UFOs, but don't know how to work with them since she was a righty and I'm a lefty. Have a wonderful day!
Oh man those patterns are SO COOL! I guarantee if I went digging through mom's stuff I'd find similar things. My grandma was a crocheter too, so mom probably has some of her old patterns stashed some where...those would be a find!

I have never seen crochet patterns packaged like that but I think I have some of the same patterns in book form. I crocheted in the 70s and then didn't for many years. I'm crocheting again now and have lots of fun. My mother recently gave me my grandmother and great grandmother's hooks, so I know how you feel about the UFO.
Scary, Ellen. I kinda cringe when reminded that the 70's are now considered "vintage", considering that I'd been there, done that. :D
